In a sudden and heartbreaking turn of events, Sanjay Gadhvi, the acclaimed director behind the blockbuster ‘Dhoom’ franchise, has passed away at the age of 56, just three days before his birthday. The news was shared by his daughter, Sanjina Gadhvi, with PTI, leaving the film industry and fans in shock.
Sanjay Gadhvi’s notable works include directing the 2004 film ‘Dhoom,’ featuring Hrithik Roshan, and its highly successful 2006 sequel, ‘Dhoom 2.’ The director played a pivotal role in shaping the action-packed narratives that became iconic in Indian cinema.
Sanjina Gadhvi informed PTI, “He passed away at 9.30 am this morning at his residence. We are not sure what it is, but it is most likely a heart attack. He wasn’t unwell, he was perfectly healthy.” The director is survived by his wife Gina and two daughters, with Sanjina being the elder one.
Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, who collaborated with Gadhvi in all three ‘Dhoom’ movies, expressed his grief on Instagram. Sharing a photo from the set of ‘Dhoom 2,’ Bachchan wrote, “I’m shocked beyond belief.
You had faith in me, even when I didn’t. You gave me my first ever hit!!! I can never ever forget that or be able to express what it meant to me. I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace, my brother.”
Actress Bipasha Basu, who also worked with Gadhvi, shared a picture of the director on Instagram Stories, saying, “Rip my friend Om Shanti @sanjaygadhvi4 Gone too soon.” Yash Raj Films, the production house behind ‘Dhoom,’ paid tribute to Gadhvi, stating, “The magic he created on screen will be cherished forever. May his soul rest in peace. #SanjayGadhvi.”
Sanjay Gadhvi began his directorial journey with the 2000 film ‘Tere Liye’ and went on to direct several films under the Yash Raj Films banner, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
